Yes, I know I am not Jewish! But this post reminded me of a time when I had a boss who was! She had a staff holiday party annually where she made delicious Latkes for everyone. They were wonderful and so was she.
It was a real bonding experience with everyone I worked with. We didn’t make a great salary, but it was our boss who made us feel like it was a great job!
If you don’t humanize the business, you are potentially generating disloyalty and discontent. My last boss was a perfect example as he felt our pay (meager though it was) was supposed to be enough to create loyalty. I rarely heard anyone speak well of him. Instead, the discussion was always about his lack of respect for our efforts. Appreciating your staff on a human level is far more effective and will go a long way to lower turnover, less pilferage, better customer service and more…
So make some Latkes and watch your business grow!
