Successful entrepreneurs seem to appear most on social media during early coffee time. You don’t generally find business owners active on social media during the day because after that coffee, the focus turns to their business – unless their business is social media!
I can flash back to my son’s infancy while I skim sunrise posts and comments of motivated and energetic LinkedIn users because the first few weeks with a newborn is a bit like running your own business.
Take the hardest 80 hour work weeks you ever had and multiply by 3, and sometimes 4. The difference is when you have those 16 hour days at work, you get to just “die” on your bed until the next morning!
Not with an infant… If the baby is awake, so are you – even if you haven’t slept. If they are hungry, it doesn’t matter if your own meal isn’t cooked, the baby must eat now. You sleep when they sleep. Quite similar for entrepreneurs!.
No matter how hard it can be to nourish a business, the joy that child/business brings far outweighs any of the losses of your previous lifestyle. All your previous priorities take a major back seat to the wonder of a new life.
The joy from the prospect of success from doing what you love far outweighs the long days and nights. Un-showered mornings, lost days, even lost friends who have no patience with your latest obsession.
Your baby or best idea can’t wait until the next morning.
The words that run through your fingertips onto the keyboard, inspiration for your next project, article, artwork, or opportunities won’t let you stop to go reheat your coffee or eat.
But when you’re done, you are exhilarated, and you can’t wait to get started on the next project or challenge!
Entrepreneurs, just like new parents, only sleep when their “baby” sleeps. To watch the growth that results makes it all worth it.
